Ingredients

1 ½ pounds chicken drumsticks
¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
½ teaspoon paprika
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 ½ cups barbecue sauce (or more to taste)

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with foil for easier cleanup.
  • In a large bowl, combine olive oil, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Toss the chicken drumsticks in the mixture until evenly coated.
  • Arrange the seasoned drumsticks in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes to start cooking and develop flavor.
  • Remove the tray and brush the drumsticks generously with barbecue sauce. Return to the oven and bake for 7 to 8 minutes. Turn the drumsticks, brush with sauce again, and bake for another 7 to 8 minutes to allow the sauce to caramelize.
  • Move the oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and turn on the broiler. Brush the drumsticks with additional barbecue sauce and broil for 3 to 4 minutes. Flip, brush again, and broil for another 3 to 4 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and juices run clear. Internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
  • Serve the drumsticks hot, juicy, and coated with a rich, sticky barbecue glaze.
