Naan Recipe
Soft, fluffy, and slightly chewy, this naan recipe allows you to make restaurant-style flatbread at home using simple ingredients and an easy cooking method. Traditionally baked in a tandoor, naan can also be prepared successfully on a hot pan or tawa while still developing the signature bubbles and light char that make it so appealing. This easy naan recipe produces tender, flavorful bread that pairs perfectly with curries, dals, grilled meats, or vegetable dishes. Whether you prefer garlic naan, butter naan, or a naan recipe without yeast, this version is beginner-friendly and reliable for everyday cooking.

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
- ½ cup plain yogurt
- ¼ to ½ cup lukewarm milk (as needed)
- 2 tablespoons oil or melted butter
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- ½ to ¾ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon grated garlic (optional)
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- Butter for brushing
- Chopped coriander leaves (optional)
- Kalonji seeds or sesame seeds (optional)
Directions
- Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, and garlic to a mixing bowl and mix well.
- Add yogurt, oil or melted butter, and lukewarm milk gradually, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough until smooth, soft, and slightly elastic, avoiding over-kneading.
- Cover the dough and allow it to rest for 20 to 30 minutes to help create softer naan.
- Divide the dough into equal portions and shape into smooth balls.
- Lightly dust the work surface with flour and roll or stretch each ball into an oval or round shape.
- Heat a tawa or heavy skillet until hot and place the rolled naan onto the surface.
- Cook until bubbles form, then flip and cook the other side until golden spots appear.
- Optionally cook briefly over an open flame for a smoky flavor.
- Remove from the pan and brush with butter before serving hot.
