- 12 egg whites
- 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 ½ teaspoons cream of tartar
- ½ teaspoon salt
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Ensure a 10-inch tube pan is completely clean and dry.
- Sift the cake flour together with ¾ cup of the sugar and set the mixture aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg whites with vanilla extract, cream of tartar, and salt until medium peaks begin to form. Gradually add the remaining ¾ cup sugar while continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the sifted flour mixture into the egg white mixture in three additions. Mix carefully so the batter keeps its airy texture.
- Pour the batter into the tube pan and smooth the top evenly.
- Bake for about 40 to 45 minutes or until the cake springs back when lightly touched.
