Ingredients
For the Scallops:
- 12 large sea scallops (about 1 ¼ to 1 ½ pounds)
- 2 teaspoons all-purpose flour (optional)
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons avocado oil or vegetable oil
Garlic Basil Butter:
- 1 ½ tablespoons butter
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves

Directions
- Pat the scallops very dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture.
- Lightly dust one side of the scallops with flour if using, then season with salt and pepper.
- Heat a wide skillet over medium-high heat and add the oil. Allow it to become hot and shimmering.
- Place the scallops in the skillet, seasoned side down, and cook without moving them for about 2 minutes until a golden crust forms.
- While the first side cooks, lightly dust the top side with flour and season with salt and pepper.
- Carefully flip the scallops and cook for another 1–2 minutes.
- Add butter and minced garlic to the pan, swirling as the butter melts.
- Remove from heat and stir in fresh basil leaves and lemon slices.
