Ingredients

  • 3 medium russet potatoes, peeled & chopped
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 onions, chopped
  • ¾ lb ground beef
  • 4 tsp light soy sauce
  • All-purpose flour (for coating)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • Panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup oil (for frying)

Instructions

  • Boil potatoes in salted water until tender (about 15 mins). Drain, mash with butter, and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a skillet, sauté onions until soft. Add ground beef + soy sauce, cook until browned and liquid evaporates.
  • Mix beef-onion mixture with mashed potatoes thoroughly.
  • Heat ½ cup oil in a deep skillet/wok over medium-high heat.
  • Shape mixture into 10 balls, flatten into patties.
  • Coat each patty in flour → dip in beaten egg → coat with panko.
  • Fry until golden brown on both sides.
  • Serve warm with Tonkatsu sauce.
