Ingredients
- 2 cups warm water (110°F / 45°C)
- ⅔ cup white sugar
- 1 ½ tablespoons active dry yeast
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 6 cups bread flour
Directions
- In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water. Stir in the yeast and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until creamy and foamy.
- Add oil and salt to the yeast mixture.
- Mix in the flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat all sides. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Punch the dough down and knead for a few minutes.
- Divide the dough in half and shape into loaves.
- Place each loaf into a greased 9×5-inch pan. Cover and let rise until the dough is about 1 inch above the pan (about 30 minutes).
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the loaves for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from pans and cool on wire racks before slicing.
