Ingredients
- 8 small Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- ½ cup white sugar
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- ¼ cup water
- 1 (9-inch) double-crust pie pastry, thawed
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add flour and stir to form a smooth paste; cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in white sugar, brown sugar, and water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 3–5 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Press one pastry into the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan.
- Fill the crust with sliced apples, forming a gentle mound in the center.
- Roll out the second pastry and cut into 1-inch strips for the lattice top.
- Lay half the strips vertically across the pie, then weave remaining strips horizontally to form a lattice pattern.
- Slowly pour the butter-sugar mixture over the lattice crust, ensuring it coats the apples.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce heat to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35–45 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel drizzle if desired.
